Herceg Novi is definitely worth a visit. What hotels in Herceg Novi have nice views? What are marketing cookies

The most beautiful resort town of Herceg Novi is located ( Herceg-Novi). The city is washed by the waters of the Bay of Kotor and is surrounded by lush greenery with many relict trees. This distinctive feature allowed Herceg Novi to claim the status of a botanical garden in Montenegro. There is an ideal ecology, a calm beach holiday and incredibly picturesque landscapes. Travelers with children come here, as it is difficult to find a better place for health improvement in Montenegro. For more than six centuries of history, this unique place belonged to Turkey, Spain, Venice, France and even a whole year of Russia (from 1806 to 1807). At the same time, each culture gave the appearance of Herceg Novi its own unique features.

At the beginning of the 19th century, a fortress was founded on the site of the present city, which marked the beginning of the history of Herceg Novi. At that time he was called Sveti Stefan. Soon the city turned into a center for salt trade. Already in the 15th century, the city came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, and remained under their rule for over 200 years.

But even after the city did not become free, but went to the Venetian Republic, which in the 18th century was replaced by French troops led by Napoleon. The history of Herceg Novi includes periods of the Ottomans, French, Austrians. This continues until the beginning of the 20th century, when Herceg Novi and the whole of Montenegro became part of Yugoslavia.

Such a rich past could not but affect the appearance of the city. Travelers will be able to admire the picturesque landscapes that unite many cultures on one small coast.

Herceg Novi is often called the botanical garden of Montenegro, the city of flowers and sun, artists and poets. A huge number of shrubs and relict trees grow here, and thanks to the sailors, flora samples have been collected from all over the world. But mimosa is especially popular in Herceg Novi, many species can be found in the city park, and since the end of January, the Mimosa Festival has been held in the city for almost a month.

Best time for vacation in Herceg Novi

The resort of Herceg Novi is year-round. The fact is that a beach holiday is not the main thing here. The resort also provides treatment and recovery to patients from all over Europe. In addition, every winter, the "Mimosa Festival" is organized, which also attracts many visitors.

If we talk about temperatures, then the maximum values of the thermometer will show after the 10th of July and until the end of August. The sea water warms up to 22-23 ° C early, somewhere in the middle of July.

How to get to Herceg Novi from Moscow

The city of Herceg Novi is geographically closest to Dubrovnik airport, which is located in neighboring Croatia. But it is worth remembering that a visa is required to visit Croatia, but not to visit Montenegro. So it is more convenient to choose from the Montenegrin airports.

There are non-stop flights from Moscow to Tivat, the duration of which is about three hours, such airlines as S7, Aeroflot, Montenegro Airlines, RedWings.

The main attractions of Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi has all the conditions for a rich and interesting vacation. The city has a picturesque embankment that stretches for several kilometers. If during a walk you want to have a cup of tea or coffee, you can easily do it in one of the small seaside cafes and restaurants.

The city has a beautiful subtropical park, all yellow during the flowering of mimosa. For curious travelers, a visit to the local Art Gallery and the Museum of Local Lore is of particular interest.

Right there, not far from Herceg Novi, there is one of the main attractions of Montenegro - the Blue Cave. You can get into it on a small yacht, admire the caves that served as a hiding place for them during the Second World War.

Mamula Island will delight tourists with views of the Austrian fortress. It is located in the Bay of Kotor. It is also interesting to visit such ancient fortifications as Spagnola, Forte Mare and nearby monasteries.

Of course, it is a sin not to visit the most famous of the sights of the Orthodox religion - the Savina monastery. It was built in the Baroque style. The history of this monastery goes back about a thousand years. It is in this monastery that the icon of the Savinskaya Mother of God is kept.

Herceg Novi beaches

This Montenegrin resort was included in the list of beaches with a "blue flag", which means that while relaxing on the beaches of Herceg Novi, you can be sure of the cleanliness of the environment and the quality of water. Holidays in Herceg Novi will be interesting for both young people and older tourists. A wide variety of beaches: pebble Zhanits, artificial Mirista with fine sand, surrounded by an olive grove, rocky Pink Beach with a deep bottom. There are many opportunities for water sports, several schools.

What is very important to know about Herceg Novi is that the city is beautiful with its history and nature, but the beaches in the resort can hardly be called the best. Many of them have concrete floors. And although the appearance of most of the beaches is not impressive, there is still a good rest here. For example, on the central beach of the city. Here the coastline is covered with sand and pebbles, and along the sea line there are numerous cafes. Of course, it is advisable to come here early, since there are much more vacationers than free space on the beach.

For the more demanding, relaxing on the beach near the village of Zhanitsa, which is located on the Lustica peninsula, is suitable. Many guests of Herceg Novi rest there. The indigenous people call this area "the presidential beach", since it was there that the residence of the President of Yugoslavia was previously located.

Igalo beach

photo: It's quiet and cozy here

One of the most amazing places for walking and swimming is Igalo Beach. It stretches all along the coast from the Sutorina River. Part of the beach is sandy, the rest of the space is filled with concrete, which means that everyone can find a place to their liking. Igalo beach is recommended for those who like to lie on the seashore or soak up the coolness of the hotel. If you want to freshen up, on the territory of the hotel you can find many drinking establishments: bars, restaurants, cafes.

Private beaches

The coast of Herceg Novi is rich and small in size, but very cozy private beaches. At your service are Baosici, Kamenari, Kumbor, Biela, Dnenovichi. Small coves, groves of olives, orange and tangerine trees give a special charm to these beaches. And in comparison with public, private beaches benefit from comfort and appearance. This is where you can feel like a real master of life! The length of private beaches is just over three kilometers, and six thousand people can relax on them at the same time!

City beaches

But don't neglect the city beaches. For example, the beaches in the town of Njivice are 21.6 sq. m, which are part of the Herceg Novi Riviera, allow you to have a great rest. Njivice itself, located a few kilometers from Herceg Novi and four kilometers from Igalo, in time immemorial was just a simple fishing village. Today this village has grown into a famous resort with the cleanest air and beautiful landscape, which is known far beyond the borders of Montenegro.

Popular hotels on the map of Herceg Novi

Among the wide variety of hotels and apartments, any tourist will find affordable accommodation, and on the long embankment of Herceg Novi, there are numerous cafes for every taste.

Herceg Novi is one of the most beautiful cities in Montenegro. I went there for one day and almost fell in love, soon I will write a photo post about the beaches and share my observations.

But it is impossible to feel and recognize the place in one day, so you need “help from a friend”.

Herceg Novi beach in windy weather

In addition to a beach holiday, there are many other entertainments in Herceg Novi and the surrounding area:

  • Riding a boat or speedboat on the Bay of Kotor (20€ per person, taking into account food and visiting several islands). Pleasure boats leave from the central pier (next to the Feral horse boat) and from Skver Beach. Tickets can be bought in advance at the tourist centers of the city. There are less long boat trips with less cost 8€ ... They run along the coast and you don't need to buy tickets in advance.
  • Visit to the Blue Cave- a spacious grotto in a sheer cliff. It is better to plan a trip to the cave in sunny weather, because it is when the rays penetrate into the depths of the cave and are reflected in the sea water that the vaults acquire a beautiful bluish color. You can also get to the cave by ordering a boat or speedboat excursion.
  • Visit to an ancient Orthodox Savina monastery, which is just 2 kilometers from the city in the direction of Kotor. The place is very beautiful, calm and atmospheric.

Sea surface off the coast of Herceg Novi

Conclusion

We lived in this Balkan country for quite a long time, made a 7-day trip plan around Montenegro, admired its beauty and originality, but Herceg Novi somehow sunk into the soul in a special way - it is not so noisy, but at the same time lively and cheerful, like Budva, in it you can enjoy the tranquility, like in Kotor, and from it it is relatively convenient to get to Durmitor, so Herceg Novi is an ideal place that can be a starting point for a vacation in Montenegro and for traveling around this country.

It is often called the most beautiful city in Montenegro, and it is quite possible that it is so. The name of the city can be read, both Herceg Novi and Herceg Novi, both options are correct, in Serbian it will be Herceg Novi.

I have been living in Herceg Novi for many years, its city is excellent, therefore, write any questions in the comments, I will be glad to answer.

And Herceg Novi is also located in Boko - Kotor Bay, which is considered the most beautiful in the world. Personally, in my opinion, this part of Montenegro is really more beautiful than the other end of the country's coast. See how Boko - Kotor Bay looks like in the photo below.

Herceg Novi is called the botanical garden of Montenegro, due to the fact that the city has the largest number of different plant species in Montenegro. According to local legend, allegedly in the good old days, sailors brought rare plants from overseas countries, and therefore Herceg Novi became the greenest city in the country. I don't know how true this legend is, but there is really a lot of everything growing here. In Herceg Novi, no one is surprised by huge cacti, palms, wild tangerines growing in the city center and other exotic fruits. I have never seen such a variety of different plants.

Herceg Novi is very different from other cities in Montenegro. Although, you know, the same can be said about any city on the coast. Somehow it so happened that all the cities of Montenegro are not similar to each other, and they differ quite strongly. Perhaps that is why it is so interesting to travel around Montenegro. Herceg Novi has a very unusual location, most of the cities on the Montenegrin coast are "flat", and in Herceg Novi, only the lower part of the city is flat, there was not enough flat space, so people began to gradually cut into the rocks, level sites there and build houses, the city "goes" up, climbing the rocks. Herceg Novi is called not only the botanical garden, there is another "nickname", the City of a Thousand Steps. Indeed, there are not so many different stairs in any other city in Montenegro, this is because of the mountainous terrain, which I have already mentioned.

But, there is no need to be afraid of this, in locations interesting for tourists there are no terrible climbs, and in the sleeping areas of the city you have nothing to do. If you decide to relax in Herceg Novi, take accommodation a couple of hundred meters from the sea and you don't have to walk up a lot. Although, why do I advise you this, physical activity has not hindered anyone yet. 🙂

And also, Herceg Novi, who just did not rule, Austria-Hungary, Ottomans, Spaniards, Venetians. Each of these empires influenced the appearance of Herceg Novi.

Attractions Herceg Novi

There are many attractions in Herceg Novi, more than in most other cities in Montenegro. In terms of the number of attractions, the city is second only to Kotor.

In this article I will hardly name all the sights, since there are many small ones in the city, and it makes no sense to describe some tiny churches, but I will write the main attractions.

Clock Tower (Sat Kula), it is the business card of Herceg Novi, which is depicted on many postcards, souvenirs and travel guides. The clock tower was built during the Turkish rule by order of the Sultan (17th century). During the construction of the tower, two goals were pursued, firstly, the inhabitants of the city did not have to miss the prayer time, for which they needed a clock. Secondly, at that time the tower served as the central gate of the city.

Such clock towers are characteristic of many regions ruled by the Turks. The city has preserved another attraction typical of the times of the Turkish domination, drinking fountain of karach, it is located a few tens of meters from Sat Kula, on the Belavist square. Beautiful structures and very useful in the summer heat.

Another important landmark of Herceg Novi, Orthodox Church of the Archangel Michael... The church is not very ancient, it was built in the 19th century, but, nevertheless, the architects worked perfectly and were able to create a very interesting structure, which is located in an excellent location, every tourist who comes to Herceg Novi passes by this place. Take a look at the photo below and rate it.

In a word, friends, Belavist square looks very nice, you will be in Herceg Novi, visit this place, it will not be difficult to find the square, it is enough to find Sat Kulu (clock tower), and the square is next to it.

Further, in Herceg Novi there are several ancient fortresses, which is somewhat unusual for Montenegro, since in this city there are much more of them than the national average. Moreover, interestingly, these fortresses were built by different powers and in different centuries, which was reflected in their architecture. All fortresses are open to tourists and I strongly advise you to visit them. Some fortresses have been restored, and some of them are in a dilapidated state. By the way, the fortresses offer an excellent view of Herceg Novi and Boko - Kotor Bay.

Fortress ForteMara built by the Bosnian king Tvrtko I in the XIV century to protect the region from attacks from the sea. It is believed that it was with the construction of Forte Mara that Herceg Novi became a city, although people lived in these places before.

Fortress KanliKula, or the bloody tower was built by the Turks during their rule in this region, in the 16th century. The fortress was part of the city's defensive structures, with its help control over the old part of the city was carried out. The fortress in some places has walls 85 meters high, and their thickness reaches 20 meters, which was quite a lot for that time.

Kanli Kula is not only an important architectural monument and landmark of Montenegro, but also an open cinema and theater. Concerts are regularly held here during the season. The open area has 1000 seats.

Fortress Spagnola, built by the Spaniards during their short reign in Herceg Novi. This fortress is less known to tourists, since it is possible to be above the city and visit it without a car, but less convenient than Forte Maru and Kanli Kulu. Nevertheless, the Spagnola fortress is well preserved and is an interesting architectural monument. Spagnola is located on a mountain, towering over the entire city. The fortress was built in the 16th century to control the surroundings of Herceg Novi.

There is another fortress, which is located not in the city, but on Mamula island... The fort was built in the 19th century by the Austrians to control the entrance to Boko - Kotor Bay. From the fort, the strait is perfectly shot, therefore, without the capture of the fortress, enemy ships would hardly have been able to get into the bay. You can get to the fortress by boat.

Take a walk through the old part of Herceg Novi, it is a maze of streets, and of course there are many stairs. Remember, I wrote above that Herceg Novi can rightfully be called the city of a thousand steps.

There are several excellent observation decks in the city and outside the city. Recommend the following:

  1. An excellent view opens from the fortresses of Kanli Kula, Forte Mara, Shpaniola.
  2. A good view of the bay and part of the city opens from the terrace of the cafe "Gradska kafana". This cafe is great to be on google maps, which are in any smartphone.
  3. If you have a car, you can drive to the observation decks at Podi and Njivice (city districts). For example, today I passed the Podi, stopped at the site and took a photo, see below.

  1. And there is also one place in the old part of Herceg Novi, from which very interesting views open up, panoramas of the bay are very good. You can find a site using your smartphone, enter on the map « Osnovna Muzicka Skola, Herceg Novi».

There is also a small church and a former maritime museum, which was later sold to private hands, which in my understanding looks very strange, since such historical monuments cannot be sold. As a result, the museum is closed, you can admire the outside, you will see many cannons, anchors and a cannonball, but you will not be allowed inside.

Another must-see in Herceg Novi Savina monastery... This is one of the most famous Orthodox monasteries in Montenegro, which was built in the XI century. As a matter of fact, in the 11th century only one temple was built, in the following centuries the monastery developed, was completed, and in our time it includes three churches, a cemetery, and a lovely adjacent territory. This is a very important architectural monument, which must be visited by every tourist who comes to the city.

The monastery is interesting for its appearance, as well as the rich collection of icons and Orthodox relics stored in it.

Marshal Tito's villa located on Igalo. During the tourist season, excursions are organized around the villa, by the way, they are quite interesting. The schedule of excursions needs to be learned, it can change, last year excursions were conducted 3 times a week, the guides spoke Russian, English and Serbian.

Once I took a photo of this villa, unfortunately, I could not find it in the archive, therefore, I do not publish the photo.

There are several more sights of Herceg Novi, which can only be reached by boat. Of these sights, I can single out abandoned submarine station, times of Yugoslavia. If you order a boat tour around the area, they will surely show you it. Also, tourists are usually taken to blue cave... It is so called because it creates the illusion that the water in this place is bright blue. Look at the photo below. As a rule, everyone swims in the blue cave.

And yet, I advise you to visit the beach on Zanjica, this is one of the cleanest beaches in Montenegro. I will tell you more about it below.

I can also advise you to visit St. Elijah Church... The road there will not be familiar to you, therefore, if you do not like to drive a car along the edge of an abyss, order a taxi. You can't get close to the church, the road ends, you have to walk a kilometer or two. It is not very convenient to get there, but it is not usual, and from that it is interesting. I have already got used to the mountains, such ascents do not “make their way” to me, and the tourists are all delighted and then tell how they were on the top of the world and eagles flew under them. There is an observation deck next to the church with excellent views. Unfortunately, I have already inserted all the photos that I took near this church into the description of the excursion on another site, therefore, I cannot show the church.

Herceg Novi Map

I marked the main sights of Herceg Novi on the map.

The beaches in Herceg Novi are mostly small, which is very good. The fact is that all the beaches of Montenegro are for rent, in Herceg Novi the same. Accordingly, the quality of the beaches largely depends on the tenant, how he looks after him. Since the beaches in Herceg Novi are small, if you do not like the nearest beach for some reason, no one bothers to walk some 200 meters and find yourself on another beach, which may already be of a completely different level.

The beaches in Herceg Novi are finely pebbled and concreted, there are no sandy beaches in the region. Most of the beaches are equipped with everything you need to relax, i.e., they have beds, umbrellas, tables, toilets, changing cabins, showers. Entrance to almost all beaches is free, but paid beds and umbrellas, their cost may vary depending on the beach, as well as from the month (in July and August there will be maximum prices). For example, on the beach of Herceg Novi, where I swim, in June of this year, a couch costs 2.5 euros, and the same is an umbrella. There is no time limit, that is, the purchased bed with an umbrella will be yours until you leave. At the same time, almost all the beaches of Herceg Novi have free places where you can come with your own towel and lie down for free.

The beaches in Herceg Novi are cleaned every day, so they are clean. Below I publish a photo of the beach, which was taken at the beginning of the season, therefore, there are still few people.

The best beach in the region and one of the best beaches in Montenegro is located on Zanjica, and Zanjica, in turn, is located on the Lustica peninsula. You can get to this peninsula by car, but it takes a long time to get there, it is easier to get there by boat. During the season, there is a regular water service between Herceg Novi and the beach.

Why is this beach the best? Usually, when you read some guidebooks created by gurus who have spent at most a week in Montenegro, you can find out that the best beaches = the most popular. That is, these gurus call the beaches the best, they say, most people swim there. At the same time, none of them even thinks that since a lot of people swim in Budva, it means there is little oxygen in the place and more mud, less transparent water, and such beaches cannot be the best in principle.

The best beaches are those where there are fewer people, that is, where it is harder to get, in other words, the beaches that are located outside the city... And just such a beach is on Zhanitsa. You read my description above, you need to sail to this beach by boat, of course, fewer people will swim there than will come to the beaches that are located in the city itself. There are fewer people, which means there is a lot of free space on the beach, the water is cleaner, while the infrastructure is no worse than on city beaches, in general, in all respects, a super beach. I don’t know if you will go to Zanitsa beach regularly, but at least once visit it.

Shopping in Herceg Novi

There are no large shopping centers in Herceg Novi yet, therefore, all shopping comes down to buying something in small shops, of which there are a lot in the city. Most of the retail outlets are concentrated in Igalo and in the city center. The best time for shopping is late August / early September, at this time of the year in Montenegro sales begin, sellers are trying to get the most out of the last tourists this season.

How to get to Herceg Novi from the airport

There are two airports not far from Herceg Novi, one in Tivat and the other in Croatia. Most Russian-speaking tourists arrive at Tivat airport, so let's take a look at how to get from this airport.

From Tivat you can get to Herceg Novi in the following ways: 1. By bus, but buses do not arrive at the airport, going to the bus station is not very far, but not very close, it is inconvenient to carry suitcases. Travel is not expensive, somehow I went, paid 3 euros. 2. Taking a taxi at the airport. Honestly, this is the most expensive way, I will not tell you the exact price, these fucking comrades have “their own rules” on how to make more money on tourists. The official price, which hangs at the airport, is 45 euros. 3. You can take it in, we will drive it straight to the airport. 4. We offer.

Accommodation in Herceg Novi

There is not much to talk about, everything, as elsewhere in Montenegro, you can book accommodation in an apartment, or you can at a hotel. The city has both micro hotels and well-known and very good ones, everything for every taste and budget. Hotels are being built regularly, their number is increasing every year, but while vacation in apartments is still in charge, most of the compatriots who come to rest in Herceg Novi book apartments.

I will give you a couple of tips advice number 1, do not delay booking, the longer you “mature”, the less choice there will be. I am not writing this in order to get money from you faster for booking an apartment. Try to book an apartment, say at the beginning of July, at the end of July, it will not be easy to find something good and at the best price. Good accommodation options are sorted out quickly, so it's best to book as early as possible.

Tip # 2: Herceg Novi is a city on the mountains, but at the same time its lower part is flat, that is, there are no mountains on the embankment and in the center of the city, therefore, if you do not like to walk up and down (although it is useful for a figure), take accommodation not far from the sea, about 200 meters away, there will definitely not be any mountains, in the Igalo area it is possible to continue.

The minimum prices for accommodation are in May and September, and the maximum in July and August. Accommodation prices can be verified using the form below.

Weather and climate

In Herceg Novi, about the same as on the entire coast of Montenegro. In May and September, the temperature is easily tolerated, in July and August it will be much hotter. The water temperature in May is 19-24 degrees, in June and September 23-24, in July and August 25-27 degrees. Of course, I'm not a seer, so I indicated the water temperature approximately, based on the Yandex weather archive.

View the average daily air temperature in Herceg Novi.

The sea temperature is lower.

There is little rainfall in Herceg Novi in summer, if it rains, then, in most cases, it is not prolonged. That is, do not expect that the weather can ruin your holiday in Herceg Novi.

If you come on vacation to Herceg Novi, and indeed to Montenegro at the end of the season, I advise you to plan to finish your vacation by about September 15-20, since after this date the weather may become unstable.

Excursions from Herceg Novi

In Herceg Novi you can order both individual and group excursions. You can choose an excursion on our website, see "". If you need advice on which excursion to choose, write, I will give you a hint.

Prices in Herceg Novi

We have a detailed one, since I live in Herceg Novi, and I know the prices in this city better than prices in other cities, then, in fact, the article is written on the basis of prices in Herceg Novi.

I can also note that prices in Herceg Novi are slightly lower than in Budva, Kotor and Tivat.

Herceg Novi Photos

In conclusion, I would like to insert a few photos of Herceg Novi.

That's all friends
I would be grateful if you add this article to social networks. Also, I am ready to answer any questions about rest in Herceg Novi, write your comments.

P.S. Do you know that it is easier and cheaper to get a residence permit (residence permit) in Montenegro than in any other country in the world? Herceg Novi is a popular tourist town of the Boka Kotorska Bay, which is located in the northern part of the Montenegrin coast in the valley Mount Orien... It is definitely worth visiting for all tourists on vacation in Montenegro. It is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name with a population of about 13,000 inhabitants.

City `s history.

Archaeological finds indicate that the first Illyrian settlements on the site of modern Herceg Novi appeared in the days of Antiquity. Myself the city was founded in 1382 by the Bosnian king Tvrtko I as a defensive structure, and initially was called Sveti Stefan, now another city in Montenegro bears this name. For medieval Bosnia, this fortress was of great strategic importance and was the most important outlet to the sea. After the death of the king, power passed to Prince Sandal Hranich from the Kosach dynasty. During his reign, the city experienced a strong economic boom and functioned as a major center for the salt trade. At the time of the reign of Stefan Vukcic, the city became known as Herceg Novi. In 1466, the Republic of Venice made an offer to Duke Vukcic to exchange Herceg Novi and the town of Risan for the island of Brac and the palace in Split, but the Duke refused.

The special position of Herceg Novi fueled the interest of both the Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire in it. In 1482, the Turks still managed to conquer the city, and it became a center of piracy and the slave trade. The Ottoman period lasted just over 200 years.

In 1687, after a 30-day siege, the Turks were forced to surrender the city to the Venetian Republic, and the city became part of the Venetian Republic as part of the Albania Veneta province. Venetian domination lasted until 1797, as in the entire Boka Kotorska Bay. Surprisingly, in 1806-1807. Herceg Novi was under Russian patronage. Until 1918, the rule of the city passed from France to Austria. During the Napoleonic Wars, power over the city passed to the French, and then the Austrians owned it until 1918, then the city became part of Yugoslavia until its collapse.

Sights of Herceg Novi.

At the very entrance to the city in the Savinskaya Dubrava park, surrounded by oaks, cypresses, chestnuts and pines, there is a monument of early Balkan Christianity - Orthodox, one of the oldest in Montenegro.

Among the beaches awarded with the Blue Flag, the beach stands out, or rather its component part -.

One of the best beaches in Montenegro, marked with the Blue Flag, is located on peninsula Lustica... This fine sandy beach is 300 meters long. It is located in a picturesque bay and surrounded by olive groves. Thanks to the shallow sea, it is perfect for families with children.

How to get to the city?

Getting to Herceg Novi will not be difficult. Approximately 30 km from it there are two international airports - (Montenegro) and Dubrovnik (Croatia). Herceg Novi is connected with the cities of Montenegro Adriatic highway(Jadranska magistrala) - a two-lane highway, quite decent level. In general, the quality of Montenegrin roads, short distances between cities and a large number of rental offices dispose to travel around the country on

Restaurants and cafes in Herceg Novi.

The same can be said about and. The cuisine here is dominated by national and European. Keep in mind that portions in restaurants are usually of such a size that it goes against all dietary advice. That is why, we strongly recommend ordering one dish at a time, since they are prepared very quickly.

Lifehack: seafood lovers will appreciate that private mussel farms (školjke) are located in Herceg Novi. They cost only 2 euros per kilogram.

The part of the city's infrastructure that is in demand by lovers of nightlife is well developed: bars, numerous shows, clubs. There is also a promenade in Herceg Novi, from which it is best to admire the sea distances and panoramas of the coast. In recent years, the city has hosted the Mimosa Festival every winter. At this time, everything around is permeated with her aroma, and the blooming city is very beautiful.

About a hundred different species of tropical and subtropical plants grow in Herceg Novi, which were brought by sailors from various countries of the world during the 6th century. Ancient architectural buildings in the Old Town of Herceg Novi keep a rich history, and a large number of cafes and restaurants of national and European cuisine along the embankment and on the streets of the city will satisfy any connoisseur of delicious food. And even fans of listening to music and dancing will have something to do with themselves in local nightclubs and bars.

In general, Herceg Novi is ideal for tourists who come to both relax and heal their health and even have fun.

Not far from the delightful Zanjice beach is its equally attractive neighbor - Mirishte beach. It is not so big (half the size of Zanjice - about 2 kilometers), but it has its own unique charm. The air here is unusually clean - this is facilitated by a dense forest, next to which lies Mirishte beach. The picturesque forest gives the beach a unique atmosphere, which is the best way for a relaxing holiday. The beach itself is not natural - the sand here lies on concrete slabs, which are located at different levels.

You can also get to Mirishte beach by sea on a private boat or speedboat. To do this, you need to swim to Cape Arza immediately behind it and there is a small bay on which you will find a beach.

Zanjice beach

A ten-minute drive from the city of Herceg Novi is the delightful Zanice beach. It is noteworthy that you can get here from the Igalo tourist center - by sailing on a private boat or boat. Zanjice beach is surrounded by olive groves. The sea is azure in color, instead of sand there are snow-white pebbles. The beach is well developed - there is everything you need to relax. When the sun gets bored and you want coolness and freshness, numerous bars and restaurants await you in the shade of olive groves. Also, the Zanjice beach boasts its own attractions - the Blue Cave and the Mamula Island (where the medieval fortress rises). In order to get to the island, you need to board one of the tourist boats that take tourists to Mamula every half hour.

Nikola Djurkovic Square

Blue cave

The Blue Cave in Herceg Novi is a grotto on the Adriatic coast. The reflection of sunlight at certain times of the day gives the waters of the grotto a special transparent turquoise color.

The Blue Cave can be reached by boat. Amazing spectral refractions of sunlight in the clear waters of the grotto give rise to a turquoise glow on the surface of the sea surface. Many shades of blue shimmer over the stone walls, reflecting in the waters of the grotto.

Behind the dark and low vault of the cave lies the vastness of the light-flooded grotto. The unexpected transition from pitch darkness to the dazzling radiance of heavenly color is mind-boggling.

You can swim in the grotto by plunging into the water directly from the boat. Thanks to underground springs, the water in the grotto is several degrees warmer than outside.

Sea fortress (Forte Mare)

Forte Mare, which means Sea Fortress, rises on the cliffs in the old part of the flourishing city of Herceg Novi. It is part of the ancient defensive structures that defended the city in the Middle Ages. The emergence of the fortress presumably dates back to the 14th century. In the period up to the 17th century, the fortress was reconstructed and expanded several times.

The present appearance and dimensions of the fortress have been going on since the time of Ottoman rule, when battlements grew on its walls, and cannons appeared in the fortress itself. At that time, the fortress was named "Yaka Kula", which means "powerful fortress" or "Kula Abaspashe". The current name Morska kula (Sea Tower) was given to the fortress in the 18th century by the Venetians. And the fortress owes its modern appearance to the Austrians, who modified it somewhat.

The fortress had many secret passages, manholes and stairs. In 1833, the fort was reconstructed, and since 1952 the fort has been used as a summer cinema. Later, discos and concerts were held within its walls.

At the end of the 20th century, the fortress underwent restoration again, and now Fort Mare is a famous tourist attraction. Through the gates within its walls you can walk right from the sea coast to the top of the fortress, and if you go up to the upper floors of the fort, you will have a breathtaking view of the city and the sea

Bloody tower

Kanli Kula is a fortress tower built by the Turks during the Ottoman rule in Montenegro, Herceg Novi. There is no exact date of its construction, but it is known that this structure was erected in the 16th century. The location of the tower allowed it to be used as a reliable fortress defending the city from the enemy from the sea. From the observation deck of the fortress, a panorama opens in which the sea can be seen at a glance.

However, as a fortress, the tower was not used for long, and rather quickly turned into a prison and a torture chamber. That is why the second name of the tower is Bloody.

Modern Kanli-Kula is, first of all, a wonderful observation deck, from which you can admire the seascapes and the front part of the coast, which captures part of the city, for an endlessly long time.

In 1966, a summer stage and an amphitheater with more than 1000 seats were built on the territory of the tower. Today, the Kanli Kula Tower hosts many cultural events, theatrical performances, concerts, etc. It is one of the most beautiful summer stages and outdoor theaters in Europe.

Inspection of the tower is paid and will cost you 1 euro per person.

Island-fortress Mamula

In the middle of the 19th century, the Austrian authorities built a small fortress here to protect the entire bay from potential intruders. Serbian general, governor of Dalmatia Lazar Mamula, in whose honor the fortress got its current name, supervised the construction and subsequently the fortress itself. Later, the island also lost its original name and began to be called Mamula.

During the First and Second World Wars, the island was used by the occupying forces as a transit point.

Today the Mamula Fortress is one of the largest and most fundamental fortifications on the Adriatic Sea. The monumentality of the building and the quality with which it was erected in due time, the accuracy of the forms and excellent functionality allow it to remain one of the most reliable fortresses in its region today.

It is not used and is currently protected as a cultural monument. However, the island itself is not closed and day trips by boat are common. To get here, you need to buy a boat ticket departing from Herceg Novi.

The authorities are considering projects to resume the work of the Mamula fortress and create an exclusive tourism zone with all the infrastructure on its territory, provided that the original form and monumentality of the structure are preserved.
